Westport Success at Connaught Indoor Championships

Westport Athletic Club athletes travelled to Nenagh
recently for the Connaught Indoor Championships. Twenty two of our
athletes qualified for the National Championships.
In the U12 Girls Kate Chambers won Bronze in the Shot Putt and Ellen Noonan took Bronze in the High Jump. In the U12 Boys Patrick Chambers came First in the 600m with Cian McAllister coming Third in the same race.
In the U13 Girls Allanah Gannon excelled winning Gold in both the Hurdles and High Jump and taking Silver in the 60m Sprint. Tara McGreevy took the Gold in the Long Jump. In the U13 Boys Joe Dawson came second in the 600m.
The U14 Boys 1000m Walk saw Mathew O'Malley taking the Gold.
In the U15 Girls Sophie Letourmey won Gold in the Long Jump and also got the Silver in the High Jump. Aoife Gannon won both the Gold in the High Jump and a Silver medal in the Shot Putt. In the U15 Boys Brendan McLoughlin won Gold.
The U16 Girls saw Clara Tierney take first place in the 1500m Walk while Niamh McLoughlin came first in the Shot Putt. In the U16 Boys Long Jump Diarmuid McGreal took the Bronze medal.
In the U17 Girls Walk Aishling Henaghan came Second and Deena Sadik took the Bronze. Ellen Moran won the gold in the 1500m. In the U17 Boys 800m Jason Gavin took the Bronze while David Harper won the Gold in the 1500m.
Katie Hyland had a very successfull competition taking Gold in the 60m Hurdles, High Jump and Triple Jump and also picked up the silver in the Long Jump, while Alice Dever won the Silver in the Triple Jump.
Anthony Chambers won the Gold medal in both the 800m and 1500m in the U19 Boys.
The All-Ireland Indoor Championships will be held over two weekends – March 19/20 in Magherafelt, Co. Derry and April 2/3 in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary, where we wish all our Athletes further success.
