Westport Success at Connacht Outdoor Championships

Westport Athletic Club athletes travelled to Sligo IT last Saturday to
take part in the Connacht Outdoor Track and Field U9-U11 Team events and
U12 individual competition, amassing a total of 30 medals. 11 Gold, 5
Silver and 14 Bronze medals were secured.
The first medals of the day were won by U10 Girls team Ruth Moran and Annie Noonan coming second in the 60m sprint. Also in the U10 Girls team 500m Saoirse O’Brien and Caoimhe Gannon won gold while Brianna Bruton and Sarah Harper took the bronze. Sarah Harper and Caoimhe Gannon also teamed up to win the U10 Girls team Long Jump. To finish a very successful day for these U10 Girls a team of Annie Noonan, Ruth Moran, Sarah Harper, Caoimhe Gannon and Amy Mulroy took home the gold in the U10 Girls Relay race. The U10 Boys team of Sean Costello and Adam Sheridan won the silver in the Ball Throw competition.
In the U11 Girls Ava Lynn Keane and Ellen Moran joined forces to bring home a bronze in the 600m team race. Aishling Halpin Fahey once again teamed with Megan Nugent to come third in the U11 Girls Long Jump and the team of Aoife Lavelle and Rachel Browne took the bronze in the U11 Girls Ball Throw. David Moran and Luke Dawson teamed up and brought home the bronze in the U11 Boys 600m while David teamed with Stephen Keating to come third in the U11 Boys Long Jump.
The U12 Girls Individual Competition saw Kate O’Malley win Gold and Kate Chambers win bronze in the Shot Putt. Kate O’Malley also came fourth in the Ball Throw ensuring qualification for the National Finals. Ellen Noonan took gold in the U12 Girls High Jump. In the U12 Boys 600m Patrick Chambers came second followed closely by Cian McAllister coming third.
Congratulations to all of these athletes who will now be going on to the National Finals. The All Irelands for the U9 – U11 will be held in Templemore on Saturday June 25th. The All Irelands for the U12s will be held in Tullamore on the Weekend of July 9th/10th.
