Ashling Heneghan bronze Cathy mckenna bronze u19 girls javelin
U18 girls 3k walk Westport Athletics Club competed in the second weekend of the Woodie’s DIY All Ireland Juvenile Track and Field Championships, which took place last Saturday and Sunday in the Tullamore Harriers stadium.
On Saturday in the field events the best performance went to Cathy McKenna who had an excellent throw of 32.85m in the U19 girls Javelin winning the bronze medal. Jennifer Chambers came seventh in the U14 girls Shot Putt with a fine throw of 10.28m. In the U14 boys discus Cian O’Farrell came eleventh with a throw of 21.55m. Daniel Lavelle also had a good day coming fifth in the U17 boys discus with a throw of 32.83m. On the track the performance of the day went to Ashling Heneghan coming third in the U18 girls 3k walk in a brilliant time of 15.41.2 just 3.5 seconds behind second. There were other fine performances from Alannah Gannon in the U14 girls 200m, Diarmuid mcGreal in the U17 boys 200m and Matthew O'Malley in the U15 boys 2k walk.
Sunday saw the U14 girls relay team of Alannah Gannon, Ruth Gallagher, Jennifer Chambers and Tara McGreevy just short of making the final. Well done to all our athletes!
