Westport Athletics Club had a successful weekend at the Woodie's DIY Juvenile Indoor Championships in Nenagh.  Over 1000 athletes took part from all over the country in age groups from U12 to U19 categories in a wide range of running, throwing and jumping events.

Westport AC athletes had some excellent performances over the two days coming home with two national medals. Saturday afternoon started with Ellen Moran taking the bronze in the girl's U18 1500m in a time of 5m13.65s.  We had further excellent performances for the day with Ava-Lynne Kane coming 9th in the girls U12 600m, Luke Dawson coming 5th in the boys U12 600m and Patrick Chambers coming 6th in the boys U13 600m. This was followed by Alannah Gannon coming 7th in the girls U14 Long Jump and Saoirse Gannon coming 10th in the girls U13 High Jump.

Sunday saw Westport AC taking a national title with Alannah Gannon winning the girls U14 High Jump with a jump of 1.51m making it her second successive Indoor National High Jump title.  Alannah also took 4th place in the girls U14 Hurdles with a PB of 9.77s. Other excellent perforamces included  Lauren Coyle coming 13th in the girls U12 Shot Putt, Cian Geraghty coming 14th in the boys U14 Shot Putt and Jennifer Chambers coming 8th in the girls U14 Shot Putt with a PB of 10.02m.

Congratulations to all athletes.  A tremendous weekend was had by all with more of our athletes competing in the second weekend of the National Indoor Championships in Nenagh on the weekend of March 31st/April 1st.
