 Westport AC Membership update

Westport AC is the largest Juvenile Athletics club in Mayo and the seventh largest in Ireland in the latest Athletics Ireland club membership report.  Out of the 366 affiliated clubs with Athletics Ireland, Westport AC is currently 20th overall.  

Snapshots of the April 2024 and September 2023 reports showing below. 


We currently have 432 juvenile members, in September 2023 we had 288 juvenile members so a growth of50% in just over a year with total club membership of 550 and climbing each week. 


This growth is in no small part to our wonderful team of coaches who are nurturing our athletes and giving them space to enjoy getting fit in a fun way. 


We have also had huge investment in our facilities in Horkan's Hill and are eagerly awaiting a tartan track in the coming months. 


We are forever indebted to the generosity and support of so many wonderful businesses and individuals in our Community.

Double Gold for O’Brien at All-Ireland Indoors

April 17, 2017



Saoirse O’Brien put in stunning performances to clinch gold medals in both 800m and 1500m events at the recent All-Ireland Indoor championships.  Brothers, Adam and Harry Sheridan and Maggie Chambers also brought home medals to add to Westport AC’s haul of awards at national level.  David Marrey missed out narrowly on a podium position with a 4th place finish in the high-jump.

Westport athletes do club proud in Connaught Indoors in Athlone

Westport athletes took home a total of 11 gold, 7 silver and 3 bronze medals at the Connaught Indoor Championships over the weekend of February 25th and 26th last.  In addition to this haul of individual medals, the U13 girls team of Leila O’Malley, Lilas Houalet, Sarah Mulroy and Claire Conway took a silver medal in the 4x100m relay.  The magnificent indoor arena of AIT was once again the venue for these championships.

Connacht Indoor Results

February 27, 2017
Westport had a great weekend at the Connacht Indoors in Athlone this Weekend. Athletes took home a 11 Gold, 7 Silver and 3 Bronze medals, well done to all Athletes. (Write up to follow)

The first 4 qualifying athletes in each event (except the 600m and the relay teams, first 3 only) will be entered into the National Finals to be held on the 25th/26th March and 1st April. Please refer to the Juvenile Booklet on the AAI website for the days for each event.

Westport AC take home Nine Medals from All Ireland Juvenile Championships

July has been a busy month for the talented group of Westport AC athletes who competed in the All-Ireland championships over two separate weekends in Tullamore.  Although the recent weather may have disappointed, sizzling performances from our athletes went some way to brightening up the summer.  A haul of nine All-Ireland medals was the reward for all the diligent work put in by athletes and coaches.
