Westport Athletics Club was very well represented last Thursday January
27th at the North Connacht Cross Country at Sligo Racecourse. In the
Minor Girls Dearbhail McNamara came 6th with Rebecca O’Malley in 10th
position. The Intermediate Girls saw Ellen Moran coming home in 2nd
place. The girls made a significant contribution to the Sacred Heart
School Minor, Junior and Intermediate teams all qualifying for the
Connachts to be held in St Mary’s, Galway on February 8th.
In the Intermediate Boys, Con Doherty was in 2nd place, David Harper in
3rd and Oisin McNulty in 17th ensuring that the Rice College
Intermediate Team came in 1st place overall. Anthony Chambers took 4th
place in the Senior Boys race, also qualifying for the Connachts.
Westport AC would like to congratulate Ellen Moran, who has been chosen
from the U16 Championships last year to compete in the 2011 Celtic Cross
Country Championships on February 6th in ALSAA, Dublin.
