Westport Athletic Club athletes travelled to Tullamore last weekend to
take part in the second weekend of the All-Ireland Outdoor Track and
Field Championships winning both a gold and a silver medal.
Daniel Lavelle won the U16 Boys’ Discus throwing 44.73m, a brilliant
performance under extreme pressure. Daniel is the Schools Junior
champion and beat several Intermediate competitors to win his first
T&F Championship title.
Our second fantastic performance of the day was Matthew O’Malley who
came second in the Boys’ U14 2000m Walk in a time of 12:53.38. Matthew
is definitely one to watch in the future.
There were many other fine performances across the weekend. Cathy
McKenna came 5th in the U18 Javelin, Ashling Henaghan 4th in U17 Walk,
Con Doherty 9th in the U17 1500m, Anthony Chambers 7th in the U18 1500m
and our U13 Girls Relay team of Allanah Gannon, Tara McGreevy, Jennifer
Chambers and Aoife O’Brien made it to the finals where they came in 8th
position. Congratulations and well done to all of our athletes.
