Sweltering heat and exciting competition was on the menu for the final weekend of the Woodie’s DIY National Juvenile Championships. The large crowds along with the glorious sunshine made for two tremendous days of competition as Ireland’s stars of the future came together in the hunt for national titles.
The biggest success of the day for Westport AC was the bronze medal win by Daniel Lavelle who had a magnificent throw of 40.71m in the U18 boy's discus. Kate O'Malley was just shy of a medal throwing an excellent 10.44m in the U14 girl's shot putt and coming in 4th place. Other fine performances came from Aisling Halpin Fahy who came 12th in the U13 girl's long jump with a fine jump of 4.21m and Aoife O'Brien who ran the U15 girl's 1500m in 5:34.87 coming home in 12th position.
Westport AC is now taking a break for the Summer and will return to training in early September in time for the cross country season.
